Urine Alcohol Testing

Overview

With urine alcohol testing, most drugs including alcohol are undetectable if urinalysis is carried out more than 2-3 days after use because alcohol in blood decays at the rate of about one unit per hour and so it is quickly lost. With hair alcohol testing, you can detect alcohol use weeks and months after someone has consumed alcohol.

Hair Alcohol Testing, a ground-breaking new technique commercialised for the first time in the UK by Trimega Laboratories, is the most accurate and effective method of finding dependent users who abuse alcohol. It is much more sensitive than urine alcohol testing and has a lesser chance of being tampered with.

When alcohol is being broken down by the body it reacts to form intermediate substances the body eventually removes in urine, faeces or breath. These intermediate substances are called metabolites. Blood feeds the hair root leaving tiny traces of alcohol metabolite that become trapped in the hair shaft and provides an alcohol history which we detect when we perform a hair alcohol test.

Advantages of hair alcohol testing verses urine alcohol testing:

  • A hair alcohol test can show alcohol abuse over a period of months instead of hours as seen in urinalysis.
  • The use of hair specimen eliminates the need for toilets or refrigeration.
  • Hair alcohol testing drastically reduces the possibility of contamination or false positives.
  • The only non-evasive alcohol test of its kind in the world.

Trimega Laboratories is the only company worldwide that commercially offers hair alcohol testing and is the first company in Europe to offer this type of testing. When compared to more traditional forms of testing like urine alcohol testing, hair samples can detect a longer period of alcohol use or prove the absence of it.

The company offers competitive pricing and a comprehensive customer support package including administration and paperwork. As a leading substance misuse testing company, Trimega Laboratories is certified to ISO9001:2000 Quality Management Systems in accordance with UKAS standards to assure you highest quality of service and testing.
