Advances in drug and hair alcohol testing technology have provided high school coaches and counsellors a way with which to prove or disprove a student is abusing drugs or alcohol. Alcohol High School Testing Explained

More than likely, a waiver signed by both the students and their parents will be required before a test can be performed. Once consent is approved, a credited nurse will come to the school and collect a small hair sample from the base of a student's head that is hardly noticeable to anyone. Next, the sample will be sent to a lab where it will be tested for certain markers that will show up in the test that are only present when a person has consumed alcohol. These markers are FAEE, fatty ethyl ethers and EtG, ethyl glucuronide. These special markers allow us to segment testing results into months instead of only days. FAEE markers can determine a light verses a heavy drinker and EtG markers can show month to month activity, whereas EtG markers in urine alcohol testing only lasts up to five days to prove whether someone has had a drink at that time.
