Adoption Testing
Overview
The primary concern of the adoption process is to make sure that a child is placed in a stable and caring home.
Adoption agencies and local authorities need to ensure that the adopting family can provide the right environment, while couples hoping to adopt must not only establish their suitability as prospective parents, but in addition, prepare themselves for the specific needs of the adopted child.
Trimega Laboratories have developed a testing service designed specifically to support the adoption process. To ensure the welfare of the child, Trimega Laboratories employ the full spectrum of testing options in order to generate the most detailed and conclusive results. We understand that the adoption process can be inherently stressful. That is why our discreet, non intrusive testing solutions are easy and cost effective to complete.
The test results are presented in an accessible Adoption Map Report, clearly setting out data in an easy-to-understand format. In some cases this will include graphical analysis of the donor's drug or alcohol usage to assist interpretation.
Substance Misuse Testing & Adoption
The impact of, and risk associated with, parental substance misuse is well documented. With nearly a quarter of all children on the adoption register having lived with parents with drug or alcohol problems(1), it is not surprising that substance abuse is a key consideration in the adoption process.
Testing is not only an important tool for removing potential barriers to the adoption process by eliminating the spectre of drug or alcohol abuse, it can also identify and help prepare adopting parents to manage the physical, mental and behavioural challenges often associated with prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol.

The Trimega Adoption Map (TAM)
Trimega Laboratories offers an unbeatable combination of clinical excellence, responsive service and value for money. By removing potential barriers and concerns that could delay or even derail a successful adoption, the Trimega Adoption Map helps to facilitate the adoption process. With a final report that clearly maps the history of substance abuse, both legal and illegal; our Adoption Map articulates the risks in an accessible format that requires no scientific background to understand.
An example of graphical representation showing drug detection (in this case, over an approx. 9-month period) to assist interpretation:

| Trimega Adoption Map, Tests Include: | ||
|---|---|---|
| Description | ||
| Blood Alcohol Tests | Liver Function and Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin Tests cover the most recent windows of detection (approx 2-4 weeks) and are used primarily to help adoption authorities to understand occurring consumption so to ensure the child is placed into a safe environment. | |
| Hair Alcohol Tests | Trimega offer an award-winning combined EtG and FAEE Hair Alcohol Test, effectively minimising the possibility of false positive / false negative results. This is the most advanced testing of its kind in the UK for determining longer term average alcohol assumption. | |
| Hair Drug Test | Regarded as the Gold Standard test by the UK's Office of Science and Technology, this test provides a snapshot of drug consumption of up to six months. This test is also sufficiently detailed to be able to quantify the amount of a substance in the system, benchmarking consumption levels over time. | |
| Legal High Test | Trimega continues to push the boundaries of clinical testing by developing new methods to accurately measure consumption across an ever expanding portfolio of substances. Commercially available now is the test capable of measuring the misuse of the recently criminalised synthetic stimulant Mephedrone (Mieow, Meow). The Trimega Adoption Map gives you the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are commissioning the most comprehensive substance testing solution available. Although not against the law, 'legal highs' can affect the security of a child and, consequently, we believe the instructing party should be made aware of this. |
|
| Graphical Representations | The scientific terminology used in substance abuse testing can make results difficult for a layperson to interpret. Trimega integrate scientific rigour into an easily understood report format that minimises the need for complex interpretative assistance. The Trimega Adoption Map report provides graphical 'snapshot views' across multiple testing segments (for drugs), clearly articulating benchmarked results without the need for expensive interpretation. | |
| Sample Collections | We can arrange sample collection from an agreed location and have an allocated Trimega collector within 48 business hours of instruction. Simple and quick to arrange, our sample collection service ensures that you avoid delays on the adoption roadmap. | |
| Adoption Map Report | This unique final report sets out conclusions in terms of the above testing. The combination of all the data is then signed off and reviewed twice by our in house PhD expert. This report will clearly assist the process with a definitive decision. | |
