Spiking a Myth

The UK’s Press Association expunges an urban myth with research from the University of Kent suggesting that people who are convinced they’ve had their drinks spiked are more often than not simply drunk. Sickness, blackouts and dizziness are being confused with the symptoms of so-called ‘date rape’ drugs such as Rohypnol but what‘s more significant is that research also found that belief in the myth was causing active denial and underestimation of alcohol intake. This ties in with our own research that shows over half (57.5%) of those failing Hair Alcohol Tests claimed to be low or moderate drinkers when asked at the time their hair samples were taken.
