Hosted by the National Addiction Centre, President Obama’s deputy drug czar Thomas McLellan gave a lecture at the Institute of Psychiatry outlining the direction for US drug policy. As reported by Drink and Drug News, his arguments for change are just as relevant to the UK. The heart of McLellan’s lecture was about the accessibility of drug treatment and replacing the stigma of seeking treatment with treatment choices appropriate to any chronic relapsing disease. He states, “we need to think sunblock, not Band Aid…[I]f you can’t prevent or intervene, let’s treat…”
